Glad to hear you at least managed to get storage sorted for her.

I'm very jealous of the roads you have on your doorstep with the New Forest as well, must make for some great driving! :driving:

That's the main thing! Even though the area is nice, it stands out so much that I'd be constantly worried it'll eventually be stolen.

They're great! I'm now in the Cotswolds so I really need to venture out and explore more. Unfortunately the roads I have found so far have been super bumpy... Going to have to follow your example and look at seriously putting some thought into the suspension, it's way too crashy when I hit potholes/bumps right now

Fantastic pictures - no wonder the car draws attention.
Thanks Rob! I really enjoy pulling over and taking a nice photo, it usually results in someone turning up for a chat which is also a great aspect of the ownership .

I've only had the pleasure of driving through them early in the morning once in the Z however it was -5 and the heater was broken which slightly took away from the experience! lol. You'll have to go and explore, there are some cracking roads up that way, also Wales isn't too far away which gives loads more choice. I'm very pleased with how mine is developing in that regard, with the anti roll bars fitted it should be fantastic, just need some better weather to really have some fun! You're always welcome to a passenger ride if your ever Surrey way, or we meet at a show this season to see what you think.

Had a nice drive up to Minchinhampton, unfortunately the roads are bumpy as hell which is giving me more cause to look into my suspension set up.

Also, my headlight fell out. Ha. For some reason the retainer ring popped out and it's allowed the headlamp to fall out of the bucket. The retainer doesn't appear to want to stay in, so I think I may have to disassemble it from the rear.

The tab on the retaining ring broke open, which opened the retaining ring allowing the headlight to fall out.

Annoyingly the way to fix this is to remove the assembly. I'll have to weld the tab back together (I think) and then fit it again.

The really annoying thing is that the 4 screws that hold the assembly in are rounded/corroded/seized. Not ideal - I've never drilled out screws so I guess I'll begin learning!

A quick glance at the above pic and i thought you had dinged the wing and the headlight had popped out  then realised it was just a dodgy reflection! ;)

I certainly would NOT have been happy ! Haha.

So the reason the headlamp popped out is because the headlamp retaining ring had two broken tabs, and eventually the ring opened up and there was nothing to stop the headlamp falling out. Fortunately it was still connected when I pulled over, so I disconnected the lamp and drove home with one light.

I had hoped (foolishly) that I could just fix the ring and then pop the headlamp back on, and be done with it. I cleaned the ring up and my Dad gave welding the ring tabs back on a go (as I've got no experience at all doing any welding).

Unfortunately it's not that simple, and the entire assembly needs to be removed from the back (via the wheel-well).

The 4 screws in the back of the wheel-well were rotten, which was really frustrating. 2 of them came out with some penetrating oil and a lot of patience, but two rounded out and required drilling out. I attempted to dremel a new groove into one of them but it just snapped the head off, oh well, all a learning experience!

Eventually we managed to get the assembly out and fitted the headlamp back in with the 'repaired' retainer ring. Not a super elegant job but it works and is hardly noticeable once installed. Very happy with the result in the end!

Only took an entire day

Are these pictures coming up as HUGE to anyone else? I have no idea why they're not staying resized :( Not the most interesting picture to have blown up to full screen unfortunately!

As with most small screws anywhere near the underside of these cars! anything i remove i always replace with stainless steel where possible and refit with a healthy dab of decent water proof grease.

Have you thought about getting some bumper delete plates to hide the holes?

I'm actually thinking about fitting some bumpers back on which is why I haven't done anything yet - I love the way they look, but wasn't sure if I could get a set at a decent price.

Yep.. Very frustrating but they've been replaced with some stainless steel hex - they really don't need to be super tight so I can't imagine they'll ever be an issue coming off again.

Took the Z to the Sunday Scramble at Bicester Heritage this weekend - it's my favourite show of the year and always has such a wide variety of cars.

I didn't park it in the main technical area as I was turned away from the Hagerty section and found a nice bit of field parking. On hindsight, I should have carried on "in" until I found somewhere. Ah well, next time!

I think I counted 4 other Z's there, which would have been great to have in a line or something.

Not the greatest photo, but that's taken from the TVR stand.

I got back from the show and wanted to check the oil - there's a small leak and it's probably due a quick top up.

I pulled the handle and no luck - there's hard resistance but the latch isn't disengaging from the hood. Brilliant.

Jacked the car up to see if I could poke at the latch from the inside but again no luck, the engine is mounted too close to the firewall and there's all sorts of ancillaries in the way.

What are my options? Can I remove the bolts that hold the front of the hood/bonnet and get to the latch that way?

Sorry to hear this, its a very familiar feeling from last summer having had my release cable snap in France. It sounds like the RB isn't as accommodating space wise as the L series.

I don't know how much you've tried the release handle but if it isn't broken an still attached then give it a really good wiggle around and try pulling with different pressures it may still pop. An aftermarket replacement has gone in mine and it was never the same as the oem one it replaced, I have to move mine around quite a bit on occasion to get it to release. (I want to swap back to oem at some point).

If you can't activate the hood release from accessing underneath through the engine bay then I would assume your next best option is releasing the bolts on the hinges at the front of the car and with someone's help trying to lift and release it from the front with the new access from the front end. That was the other suggestion I was given at the time albeit I never tried it myself. Goodluck!
