Kent D11 Fast Road Cam

Found treasure in the attic...

Brand new Kent D11 fast road cam for an L28
Info that was with it states:

Duration 290 inlet/ 270 Exhaust
Lift 0.302”
Power Band 2000-6000

How does this Kent cam compare to something like a similar Schneider cam? Any one have experience with the Kent unit? We’re they any good, what would idle be like etc...

Just interested as Kent couldn’t tell me anymore than the info above.

It’s amazing what you find having a clear out....

I have driven an s30 with a Nissan Rally cam in it 0.475 lift and 270 duration.
Ideal for regularity events and soft marathons. The car pulls strongly through the powerband.

Nissan slalom cam has more lift than your Kent one for the same duration.0.49 lift for 290 duration.

So IMO your Kent cam at 0.453 is a bit weak on lift for its duration.
There was possibly some (IMO flawed) logic being applied in its making.

It will be interesting to see if anyone has driven a car with this cam in it.....and what supporting mods they had.

I was also wondering why the asymmetric lobe pattern? What benefit would a dual pattern cam have over single pattern, if that is what indeed this cam is. I was under the impression that dual pattern cams were preferable to where exhaust/intake flow ratio is poor, such as with a weak flowing exhaust port or restrictive exhaust system. If that's the case could this cam be used with a stock manifold maybe? I know the 280ZX can suffer power wise if a free flow header is used.

IMO...you need a full range of supporting mods . Not a lot of point in sticking a modified cam in a stock engine.
So......10.5 or above compression.
Inlets and exhaust ports ported out to suit.
Good design tubular manifold... 1 5/8" probably.
I have no experience on what you can do with re mapping a stock 280ZX ECU??

Symmetric cams versus asymmetric cams is a bridge further than my experience goes.:(

Can’t do anytjing with the stock 280ZX EFI. The whole system needs to be replaced if you want to tune it.
I don’t intend using this cam Pete, just wanted to find out a bit more about it :)

Ok. just stick it up for sale.
Kent will charge you around £200 these days to grind one if you send a std one to them.
Is it internally or externally oiled?

I ran a 280ZX 2x seater, Mike F knew of it with 'revised' (4ways) stock EFi and some old tubular exhaust manifold and it was making 175 flywheel bhp.
