Nasty.

I wonder how much money that 2 days has cost them?

I notice it's a RHD UK registered car.

They are local Kenyan residents of Italian Heritage.:)

And the car was the winning car from earlier years, built by 4tewart Wilkins. An ex Aussie car.

Why it's wearing UK plates you ask? Another "Big Sam" samuri identity type of a tale..

Hello from Reims!

I hate to see a Z in such condition after racing, but rules for the game are there...
The positive side is that the two crew members are safe and smiling!

Rob, money is probably not the issue when you enter such event:
If we are still counting, that shows that we are not for it!!

What made me surprised is that the car has no one single window broken!
The impacts must have been serious looking around the shape of it.
The cage is probably the reason, and this is a build that shows exactly what you should expect from it: A very good protection indeed!

But still not for me!

There is no touch on the roof...
I would imagine that it danced horizontally for uncontrolled spin(s) on rough ground, hitting all sides on earth irregularities side to the road track.
Rock hit would give fast deformation on limited areas of the frame.
Earth hit is making deeper deformation like the right wing and bonnet result.
It definitely turned a few laps before stopping, looking at the rear and left back wheel damage...

Rob, statistically, some will say that you only need the right one to win...
I consider being too old now to have a chance!
Some are playing since decades, and their only result is to pay more taxes!
The average state win in France is around 65-70% of all the money involved.
This is no game!!

The damage doesn't look extensive and sounds just as been described. Quite heavy front corner which spun the car and caused a lighter rear corner impact and that's probably about it.

John, it looks extensive to me but yes Hubert and you may be correct about the accident. I was thinking of a cart-wheel type of accident but will we ever find out?

This report mentions the accident (but not in detail) and two deaths associated with the rally.

The guy starting the first car (maroon shirt and wearing glasses) in the Day 1 video below was killed the following day in a road accident! The Datsun in the accident is featured at about 2 mins going ok.
