L-gata, max rpm: 10,000, target max speed: 120 mph
Cyclist, max rpm: 100, target max speed: 30 mph.

So the cyclist is looking for 1/4 the top speed with 1/100 the engine revs available.

Clearly the cyclist will have to gear up more than the car.

And clearly the car a silly ratio-ed diff...:

me at 120mph = 3000 revs
? at 120mph = 10000 revs

Totally different gearbox ratios though.

A big part is matching it to the engine, I’m staying very modest power wise, just s warmed through l24, one that is happy to Rev a little.

I’ll leave massive torque for the tdi motorway car.

Warmed through ? You're looking to increase power by +35% fitting triple carbs an' all.;)

I don't need massive torque on the m-way where the car rarely drops below cruising revs and accelerates sufficiently for easy overtaking.

I do like massive torque when accelerating which is before EVERY gear-change, exiting EVERY slow corner and take off from the line.

Perhaps spoilt because I've become used to having this under the right foot....when size really matters:D

Never took much notice of the gear ratios in my scooby,it just gets there really quick, next time I go out in it I’ll make a note of the speed in different gears, for those of you out there that haven’t drove an Impreza all I can say is a well sorted scooby takes some beating

Sold 'in the room' for £24k (+ fees I think).

Most cars at the auction were 'passed over' so it shows there was interest .

I think someone has a good buy if they are after a serious rally car.

Glad it didn't go 'dirt cheap'.

Thanks Rob, any idea what the Porsche 930 replica made, it's a friend of mines car...?
Well I've just heard 911 replica didn't sell from my friend, he says that around 80% of the cars in he sale didn't sell..! Perhaps this market is a lot tougher than the glamour of the NEC.

He also says the 240 sold in the room to "two mature guys with Swiss rally jackets on"

JK.

Sounds like the continentals don't mind driving on the wrong side to snatch a bargain. Pity the Brits are so stiff in their resolve for RHD and paying a premium into the bargain.

All the better for us over here.:D

Stirrer!

When you complete an insurance application 'over here' one of the questions relates to whether the car is RHD or LHD - why would you think they ask that?

I know to give us a discount if it's LHD - because it's safer.

IMO insurance for a LHD 240z is not expensive. When I recently insured the blue car (£220) I also insured the silver LHD car and that was £89. Not excessive IMO.

More likely they are in Swiss rally jackets because they are possibly Swiss, but who knows I see loads of idiots in Man united shirts but few of them come from Manchester. However if they are indeeed Swiss then they could be driving in Swiss rallies where there is nothing coming towards them the other way and where drive side is far less relevant than it would be as a road car in regular use on everyday modern roads in modern traffic.

They have a phrase in France I believe, something like raison d'être.....!!

As always another thread dissolves into a "Cooee Look at me I'm still here" Seanfest. Honestly why do we bother...?

Why are you still here - you haven't got a Z !

Where is this discussion going to go now the car has sold and presumably leaving the country ? Shut it down, close it then.

I believe it IS relevant, when the car bids up from the estimated £15k to nearly double and it 'appears' to have been bought from and be exported abroad, that the obvious detail differentiating you from us is only the placement of the steering wheel.

Not sure how UK insurance goes but here there is no difference whether RH or LH drive and we get a world-wide green-card included free of charge.

In any case - the bottom line is another good car leaves your shores - a shame.

Your presumption knows no bounds, I got the Swiss coat info from a friend who didn't speak with the gents wearing them and so neither he nor I and certainly not you know where they are from, nor do we know their intention with the car.

So bottom line is not that the car is leaving the country as no one knows this either without confirmation from the new owner.

Why am I still here? I wonder myself at times....
