New member looking for a car

Treat me gently as this is my first post. I am looking to purchase a car to compliment my 1969 TR6. In particular I plan to look at a 280z S30 and could do with some practical advice on what to expect for circa 12k in a lhd car.

The TR hides its rust pretty well and I imagine the Datsun could do the same. Looking for a good daily driver. Am I expecting too much for my money ?

Regards

Hello Gav.

Datsun S30s don't hide their rust - people simpy pretend it isn't there when all the clues say it is !

£12k should get you a clean, running car with, in time a little scope for a few improvements and finishing.
If you want a perfect car with 5spd box, euro ratio diff and perhaps bumpers or at worst some well-fitted fibre-glass ones and perhaps some suspension upgrades, look to pay around £20k.

Good hunting - good choice for an everday runner which is more of a GT than out and out sports.

There is a small downside with a 280 beyond LHD is that it's got quite a few bits that are unfamiliar to us lot in the UK.

Yes, the parts that we are unfamiliar with are readily available in the US. As are parts for the cars with which we are familiar. Apart from the uniquely RHD parts :)

Hi
I have a TR6, probably my 6th. I also have a 280Z from CA and have done loads to it

The only similarity is that the wheel PCD is the same

If you think a TR6 rusts then a Z will blow you away, they rot badly and everywhere

If you're ever in Kent I'll show you the weak spots

Zs have rusted but with careful selection you'll get a clean one and with hindsight and modern materials, it won't rust in the future.

I thought that the TR6 also had a six inline and two seats ?;)

Indeed that may be the one i was looking at. Vega Classics. I have called him a few times today with mo luck as yet. Off on hols at the weekend so it will have to wait.

Out of interest would you know if the lights are relatively easy to convert for rhd use. I guess this is a requirement for uk mot. My first dabble with a left hooker.
