Why are modern cars so ugly? If I was a universoty student doing a dissertation that's be an ideal subject. And why do they all seem to have lights about four feet off the ground now ... ?

I think that's to do with safety like the high brake light requirement. It's to give following cars of following cars advance warning - I THINK anyway.

Rob's correct, designers aren't allowed free reign in the same way these days. Lots of regulations to meet and comply with for safety reasons these days which the designs have to be engineered and sketched around.

Unfortunately you'll never be able to design a car like they used to in the 50's & 60's from an aesthetics point of view

I hear that completely but what has me baffled is how come Maserati or Jaguar can make cars that are achingly beautiful from every angle and yet Nissan can't have the same verve (Sean, correct me if wrong expression)!?

They still suffer from the same high lights and large bumpers unfortunately!

They've literally mated the S30 chases with the new Abarth 124... Not for me I'm afraid....

Ultimately I suppose they're looking at what their main markets are and I doubt the 2 seat sports car sector is bringing in very much income for them these days. It kinda sucks but that's probably the truth of it....

The Jag looks nice but the V8 sounds really fake imo, saw a few a while back and was really disappointed by it. By contrast though I'm a massive fan of the Corvette C7 Stingray, I think they look fantastic and they sound amazing! I like very few modern cars but that's one of the few I'd actually want to own.

We don't know what the new Z will look like yet. Most likely won't look like that - the pictures in the article you posted are of the 2011 Nissan Esflow concept!!

I thought it was more like something that would be racing against Lightening McQueen in the new kids film Cars 3.
