Driving back last weekend from Devon on the A303 dual carriage way bit before the M3 I was overtaken by an RS3 with tinted black windows all round giving it the beans. Thought it was some young lad opening it up. Sure enough the stealthy Christmas lights came on and the person following it got pulled over.

There goes my strategy of following a faster driver ;)

Baztardz... ain't that 'entrapment' or is that USA.. I'd seen at the weekend its now up to a fine of 150% of weekly income if 20mph over limit.

Only 13 more years till i reach pension age and they can fine me 200% if they wish.. haha.

That is so wrong the t***s. Where are they going to end with this vendetta against the motorist.

Just off for my early morning thrash now before they wake up !

Yes I know they are always awake but as Shaw Taylor used to say keep em peeled. :D

We get that around my end quite a lot, they take the sportier cars off the rich kids that get banned etc and put them back on he road with the Christmas lights and either L or P plates.

The dual carriageway at the end of my street is only 30mph for some daft reason and they are always parked in the bus stop with hazards on till something sporty or fast comes past, then they drive up to it at the lights and rev the engine as hard as they can to see if they get a response. Sadly a lot of people fall for it, see it once or twice a week usually.

They even have the front windows fully blacked out as well (not windscreen) so you can't see their faces when alongside you.

Not so sure - seems quite likely to me that the people that get "caught out" by this are quite likely regular offenders. No one on here would be so easily tempted to offend, would they?

It's still hardly fair - I'm sure the point of police patrolling is to catch people breaking the law, not actually tempting them to do it. Would they put a plain clothes officer in a shop and get them to try encourage people to steal so they could get the arrest?

And they still use illegal tactics - such as the fully blacked out driver and passenger windows. They would stop the public for having such car mods. Not sure what the legalities are on using P and L plates as a professional driver though.

What a load of tosh
The speed limit is set for a reason and that is the law we all break it at some time and all take the chance of getting done

I know it sounds like old person talk but hey so what if they are disguising themselves to catch people speeding if you are taking the chance by speeding you are running the risk of being caught no matter how it done

If you dont want to run the risk of being caught dont break the speed limit and if you want to break the speed limit and take the chance of being caught dont moan about how you were caught

So to take this stupid outburst to another level so if someone was killing someone and a copper arrested them but was in fancy dress would some on here criticize that arrest

It's not just speeding they do you for but just revving the engine in return will cause them to pull you over on the proviso that they are preventing you from handling the vehicle in a dangerous manner.

And the copper arresting a murder in fancy dress is fine - but it's not if they were goading the murderer into doing it...

What have people been charged with Jon in those circumstances? I'd expect they just talk to you about controlling your excitement.

I'm not sure as I've not fallen for it! I've seen one of guys in a nearby Facebook car group done for disturbing the peace when he revved his engine in response to the officer - which I believe is a fine and potential ASBO, but I don't know how much.

Well I guess the guy on Facebook who was revving his engine in response to being talked to was just going about his business and behaving in a respectful way and felt the need to brag about how he reacted no doubt as he held the steering wheel he was giving the finger as well

God I must be getting old letting things like this wind me up

Kind of agree with this but......

I overtook a unmarked police motorbike on an open road, no other traffic. He was doing about 80 and me a little more......

He then pulled me over for speeding and would not entertain any discussion on the fact that he was speeding as well. Also the Summons was worded along the lines of 'if you fight this then the penalty will increase'.

Whilst I agree with the fancy dress and killing example, the Police should have to play by the rules.

https://www.gov.uk/driving-lessons-learning-to-drive/using-l-and-p-plates

You should take L plates off your vehicle when it’s not being used by a learner.

https://www.gov.uk/tinted-vehicle-window-rules

Vehicles first used on 1 April 1985 or later
The front windscreen must let at least 75% of light through and the front side windows must let at least 70% of light through.

It was maybe the fast response police driver's fist day on the job so his colleague's stuck up a "L" plate for a laugh. (Do they a sense of humour ???)

You are correct there toopy, pennies for the coffers thats all its about. I am damn sure the roads would be alot safer if everyone was watching the road rather than watching their speedo etc.
