It's been on the to do list for a while now. Finally built up some Dutch courige and decided to replace the speedo cable. Found out why wasn't working the cable has snapped. Took for run up road and back working

Was it an easy job?

MOT today, nothing special there, but the garage owner has several classic Fords, an M3 track car and there today was his 2004 M3 CSL (Coupe sport light), quite a rare beast. Subtle bodywork mods over standard M3, with lots of weight saving thrown in, nice straight six as well, never seen one before :)

Carbon fibre front spoiler alone is around £10k and was responsible for some cars being written off because of the replacement cost's

Hi John yeah took me half an hour 45mins to do wasn't in a rush but didn't take long

I could get my hand up back of dash and i could get to it to unscrew it so I took it off speed first then

Went under the car to back of gearbox and got my imperial spanners out 1/2 spanner then came off

Relocated new one took it up road and it works

Propshaft let go this time. Got a lift home to pick up a spare from the workshop (over 200 mile trip!!!) and replaced it at Santa pod. Was going to have another run but thought better of it.

Is that you retiring from drag racing then?

I had a less exciting day. I went hunting in my rear suspension for the source of my hop-tastic drag starts. I found 2 candidates - rear brake cylinder failed and brake fluid everywhere inside the drum.

Also the damper doesn't at all. Someone here did say the KYB shocks wouldn't work with 200lb springs :( Are Tokico Illumina my only good option?

AVO are a local outfit, I'm going to see if they've got anything the right size.

Those brake cylinders are not easy to find in the states if they are the early type (series 1) but the series 2 are easy to get but still expensive. Good luck.

Sat in it..
Sat in it again...
Gave it a coat of Glaze..
Took it for a drive...Fatal..
Dropped wife off at airport and got side tracked.. 8hrs later, yes 8hrs!.. 4:34am just got home!.. Stopped on Edgware Road, some chap insistent in holding up traffic to take a photo in middle of road.. haha.. Man, I love this car. Was a time in sales that I’d do 40k a year easy, could drive for hours, but lost interest over time, since owning the Z no other car has made me feel the same.. LML..:)

Thanks Mike, mines a late '74. I replaced the other side only a few months ago, so hopefully plenty available.

Just had confirmation from the body shop that the car wing mirror holes on the front of the wings have now been welded and primed ready for paint tomorrow. Car should be ready to come back on Wednesday.

Also got some track rod ends to fit, but I've never done that job before so not sure whether to do it myself then get the tracking done for £30 or just pay the £50 that my mechanic has quoted for fitting and tracking...

If you do it yourself the track rods have left and right threads and sometimes the nuts can be a right pain to move

Cheers moggy - sounds like for the sake of £20 I might as well let someone else have the hassle!

Pay the money, Jon. It IS a hassle ...

Mine's been on axle stands since October with the steering column on the bench. I had to remove it to get the nuts off. The track road ends were the originals ...

I stopped to spend a week doing my bathroom which took me until Christmas! (don't ask)

It's now May and the car is still up on these bloody stands, but I have at least removed everything from the roof.

Got the car back from the body shop - holes in the wing all now filled in and it's all looking epic and span!
