Hello Everybody,

I'm just trying to set up doors, wings, bonnet etc so my 260Z 2+2 can be prepared for a fresh coat of paint. I was just wondering what the gap size should be and should it be the same all around? I've been experimenting a little and it seems to me that by setting the wings to a position which will give me approximately a 4mm gap all around the doors, then the bonnet becomes quite tight with the scuttle panel and inspection lids. The previous owner did a lot of bare metal restoration, so I guess things can be a little bit tight here and there so just wondering what I should be aiming for?

Any Advice will be greatly appreciated.

Not one of my favourite jobs and even harder with freshly painted panels as paint thickness moves things around a bit too. Inspection flaps are a fixed point so generally start from there to see how things fit. Then shuffle everything around for a few weeks until your happy

Aren't the inspection panels on shims and screw bases?

On my car the inspection lid hinge bases are fixed, so I get what Johnymd is saying but I was hoping some of you could tell me what gap size you typically have around the doors and then would it be normal to expect the same around the bonnet, inspection lids or should they be typically tighter?

Any advice will be very much appreciated.

I think its a little subjective, I've seen very original cars where the gaps aren't great from the factory, restored cars where they're pretty much perfect.

I didn't mean the lid hinge bases, where they fit to the hinge, all the panels seem to have wiggle room.
