Urgent need of a Windscreen

Can't believe I've just done this, carefully brought the windscreen down from the loft while assembling the parts to go with my Z for its final paint at the body shop. Lay'd it on the garage floor and when back inside to get some cleaner. Walked into the garage while reading the cleaner and stood right in the middle of the screen and smashed it. As funny as this might read I'm gutted. Now I need to get a replacement screen asap, the car goes on Saturday and will be away for about 3 weeks during which time the screen will need to be fitted. The screen matched the door windows and tailgate in that it had a greenish tint to it. Any chance anyone has an identical replacement screen, Mine is a 74 240z. Absolutely gutted.....:(

Unlucky mate, easily done, well, not easily done but you don't want to hear that!

Sure someone will have one somewhere. Was your screen the original?

I was fitting the front screen in my fastback and we'd done it more or less and my mate gave a little thump in one part with the heel of his hand and cracked it. He was beside himself. Results though was that bought another, which was 65mm thick - the one we were fitting was 4mm. No trouble second time around.

You'll get there. I would imagine you've got more time than you think as why does it have to go with the car when it is being painted? I would think it would be one of the last pieces to go in?

How does that Nick Lowe song go?

Yes mate, original screen. I don't know if they came with no tints or various different colour tints but mine has a greenish tint (could be bluish in a different light) that matches all the other glass. Still can't believe I've done such a stupid thing. The bodyshop would have been fitting the screen after painting. They'll sort out the headlining under the windsceen seal and attempt to refit the chrome trim to the seal, I'm sure they'd make a better job than me.

Franky, thanks for the offer, does it have the tint I mentioned? I'll crawl on my hands and knees to Devon if I have to.

Franky, that's brilliant you've lifted my spirits right up. Devon is a bit of a trail from near the border wih Scotland, but if needs must.... I'll give Peter Mac a ring tomorrow to see if he has anything closer but if I can't get anything I'd like to take up the offer. In the mean time please start thinking of a price.
Not feeling so stupid now..

Paul S, thanks for the link, I'm sure it'll be of use to others but I need to stick with originality, thanks for the thought though.

If it helps you imustaveit I may be able to get the screen up to Cheshire for you on Saturday if Franky can drop it off at my unit beforehand ( or House-It, he knows it ). A lot closer to you than Devon.
Dog may be put out at invasion of her space in the car but can hopefully get around that one.

You can have it, it might have the odd scratch on it.

What fantastic club spirit! That's what it's all about, sharing knowledge, giving useful advise and helping out other members who are in desperate need. Within a couple of hours, late on a weekday night, a large part is found, offered, and it's long journey organised to a member in need.

Brilliant stuff, well done guys.

Status unfortunately my car is far from roadworthy and certainly not insured :-(

 These cars are worth insuring even when off the road, surely.

I hope you get one sorted, bad things happen and most of us have had an accident.
