Anybody into pushbikes?

I have a modern bike and my 70s Viking I bought new, today I bought a classic Columbia made in Worksop.

Seems a bit special.

I have a Boardman road bike, having bought it specifically for a trip to France when four of us cycled from London-Paris for a mate's 50th ...

I did three months training for the trip and lost loads of weight and got a lot fitter, regularly doing 20 miles a day.

Since then however, when I tried to keep it up regularly, I got a succession of punctures and it's in the garage leaning against the wall currently, having had a couple of years off!

Thing is, I DO have plans to get out and about on it again when the weather gets slightly nicer as I really enjoyed it.

I have a couple of old bmx bikes that are worth a few quid now.

Started road biking just over a year ago on a second hand ebay bike and ended up doing almost 2000 miles last year.........

Distracted me from getting my car sorted ... but enjoyed it.

I've got a cube too! Also a record aero but that's still waiting to get fixed after a crash last year.

It's a small world.

Today I contacted someone selling period Campagnolo brakes on ebay.

He is located on the outskirts of Leicester and when I said I needed guidance because my specialty was old cars not bikes he asked what cars.

When I said Datsun 240Zs he said wow that's a coincidence my father-in-law had one and unfortunately he sold it before the prices started to rise. I asked what his name was and it was my old trackday car!!! I bought it in 1996.

I've got this hung on the wall, doesn't come out anywhere near as often as It should though to be honest, and tends to get used as a clothes horse, prefer the other with the 800cc engine fitted when the weathers nice

Have got my Columbia on the road and it is special. I managed to get the correct rear caliper, NOS tyres and fit brake cables. Also fitted 'clip-in' SPD pedals to match my shoes. It rides about as fast as my modern 'Hoy' bike but is not as easy to change gear or brake when holding the top of the bars. It must have been good in it's day. It is very rare - cannot find another or info.

Don't ride bikes now, when I was a teenager in the 70s I had a Viking Hosteler. I remember it had Campagnolo gears which seemed rather special to me at the time.

I have a Viking, I cycle on Thursday night with half a dozen village mates (even in the middle of winter), we do about 20 miles with a pint of real ale in the middle.:

Tahr - I once had to rescue a Pro during a Wimbleball half when his Di2 packed up after a fall - amazing what you can do if you carry electric tape in your pouch ;)

(Not my shorts Sean, the bike pouch )

How do you like that Groupset? I hear it's VERY smooth!

Rob, just read your posts properly. Those are utterly wonderful bikes you have. Kinda like the classic cars of the biking world!

I have a 1986 (vintage) steel custom made Allin with Mavic MA40 rims, campagnolo hubs and Shimano 600 group set which I used to time trial back in the day when I could race without training.

Nowadays I ride a custom Titanium Serrota with Campag Record Groupset, Fulcrum 1 wheels for thilly races and Zipp 404s for flat Triathlons.

This is the bad boy I parted with when the kiddies came along *sniff*!

Mine was shod with Zipp808s which, while quick, where hard to spin up (like a factory S30 flywheel) :p

Wow Ali that looks amazing (over the top but amazing).

I ride mainly on Mondays and Thursdays and fairly slowly but it helps to keep me fit. I used to run competitively but my right knee gave up a while ago after 25 years. I do still play badminton in Coventry on a Tuesday eve and have done for 26 years. We had an issue with court booking recently (the Uni block-book ALL the courts for the first few weeks of term and then interest falls). The duty manager came to see us and asked what the problem was - he understood when we explained that we had been playing there every week from before he was born!

Anyway my lads race (one downhill, one on the road and Derby Velo) and I think it's a great hobby but like you Ali they both spend far too much on bikes.
