I'm going 1JZ

Just going to leave this here for now.

Not in the biggest rush to get it converted but it was the right car at what I feel was the right money for the spec.

Hoping to get much of the money I spent on it back when I strip it. Has a lot of supra parts fitted, sought after black interior and many more.

Engine wise it has rebuilt turbos with steel internals which is one of the main weaknesses on these.
It has a few other bits and pieces with HKS written on them as well.

Just before it was crashed it ran a 13 second 1/4 at Santa Pod so should have enough power for my Z.

Awesome. Best engine for a Hybrid (IMO).

Should be super nice when done. A fast 2+2, not something you say everyday :)

Conversion yes. Not a factory r154 box. Not pushing for a specific figure at the moment. The idea was to do brakes, suspension, diff etc. First bit this came up.

Still has the standard open diff and drive shafts so any kind of aggressive driving with a pretty standard 1jz will start breaking things!

I ran mine with standard brakes, diff, driveshafts, ect for a while without breaking things.

If you need any advice or help just give me a shout.

Cheers John. I definitely will.

Need to work out what else the engine has done to it. Has a fuel cut defender and boost controller. A posh looking HKS dump valve, huge ally radiator and electric fans, paddle clutch fitted and an exeedy clutch in the boot that looks like it had been slipping.

Going to strip the soarer tomorrow and hopefully make some money back on the car.

Just a few tips, you may know these already.

I used the engine bay fuse board/relays as it gave my a few supplies and relays for the engine and retired a few of the other to read existing zed stuff. Used the headlight relays to power the 2 fuel pumps. Zed speedo cable went straight into the Toyota box once I fitted the supra cog. I didn't use the ps or ac pumps so fitted a Honda S2000 idler pulley and shorter ribbed belt. I used the Soarer throttle cable and top part of the pedal welded to part of zed pedal. The cable baulkhead section bolts straight up to the zed and works really well. Just made up a longer hard pipe for the clutch. I'd use the Soarer prop and attach bigger rear joint of the zed pattern. Mount the engine as low and as far back as possible if your interested in improving the handling.

All pretty straight forward.

With the prop, do you mean use the soarer front section and have the shorter rear part cut and welded on to the yoke in the Z diff? Planning on using the Soarer fuel tank and building a frame for it in the boot then Boxing it all in. Has the correct pump etc then. Problem is my existing tank is pretty rotten.

Wasn't in a hurry to start the work but not back to work until Tuesday so stripped the soarer. Just need to unbolt the engine tomorrow and list all the decent bits I won't use on eBay IMG_0068.JPGIMG_0073.JPGIMG_0074.JPGIMG_0075.JPGIMG_0076.JPG
Even found a JDM wasp thing!

I didn't remember mine being a split prop. I was a long time ago. I have had a lot of top issues. Always the rear joint that goes so worth going for as big as possible. The front has never given me an issue.

Mine has a longer bit at the front and a shorter bit at the back. There is a mount that holds the split to the car underneath. Not sure if it is because it's a W58 box. I need to work out what speed sensor I need and can't really find a clear answer.

I originally bought a mechanical output to use the standard z speedo, which I used for a while. When I bought an autometer electronic speedo I put the old Soarer r154 electronic output back on the box and used that.

Do yo still have the mechanical output? Not sure if it will fit the W58 though

Yes, along with the conversion cable you will also need. I bought both items new from Toyota. I think they are for a supra w58. I'll dig them out tomorrow and take a picture.

That would be brilliant! Thanks John. If you can just give me the keys to your parts cupboard I would be most appreciative!

Safe to say that the Soarer is now stripped. Unfortunately we were a bit too efficient and it's stuck on the ramp until the V5 arrives so I can scrap itIMG_0187.JPGIMG_0193.JPG

Did you have any luck digging out those bits John?

Only really leaves me the Tacho to work out and the fuel gauge as I'm going to use the Soarer fuel tank, pumps etc.

I didn't Russell. I'm struggling with a really bad back at the moment so cant lift anything. I had a look yesterday but I think its behind some boxes I will need to move. You will have to bare with me I'm afraid but I do still have the parts somewhere.

For the tacho, I bought a mk3 supra instrument panel and removed the tacho part and put it in the zed housing. Worked OK but I eventually bought an autometer one in the end.
