In Car Security

Hi All,

With Z's not being the most difficult of cars to break into / steal, I wondered what (if any) in car security devices you use?

I'm just thinking I should possibly use a steering wheel lock or similar for when my Z is left on the street or in surface car parks in Spain and France.

Cheers,

Nick.

A hidden kill switch to the ignition or fuel pump (if you gone electric), or both.
I've got a Python alarm fitted to my Z.
I know some of the guys carry a wheel clamp but they are pretty bulky in a little sports car.
As Vipergts says tracking can be a good option and doesn't need to be costly. Got an old mobile? In fact I think it's already been talked about on here, could be worth a search.

I agree with this. A hidden kill switch to foil the 'chancer' and a tracker for the serious thief (who will probably get it if they really want it).

I have an immobiliser on mine but in addition to that I use a Disklock steering wheel lock, The Disklock is one of the strongest, most resilient steering wheel locks on the market today being made from reinforced steel and is the only Category 3 device to meet the Thatcham scheme requirements. It spins when on the wheel and is extremely difficult to get through even using power tools. Costs around £100 but worth it I think.
You can see it here: http://www.disklokuk.co.uk/?gclid=CJKaxN7Prc0CFZadGwodfSIIgg

I like the sound of the tracking device option. Oh & the big dog/ugly woman one. Steering wheel clamps make me laugh especially when you see the car thief can remove it quicker than you can put it on !

That might be the case with the usual Krookloks but I think the Disklok is a very different thing, hence the Thatcham creditation. A big deterrent.

My view is fit a deterrent and make sure the car is insured well.

It's ok having trackers and phones but I don't want the car to be stolen and recovered I want it to remain where I parked it.

If they want it enough wheel clamps & steering locks won't stop them. They will just lift/drag it onto a flatbed or similar and drive off with it. A friend of mine had it happen to his car a few year back, never to be seen again. Had a tracker been fitted he could very likely have (dare I say it) tracked it down.

Yeah, price is good - the thing that stops me is all the effort to get it installed adequately hidden with a power supply that lasts and isn't defeated by removing the car battery .

i used a single pole dual throw switch to divert power from the coil to the horn.
that way if someone tries to start the car without flipping the switch first they will sound the horn.
until the switch is turned so power goes back to the coil it will never fire up.
best bit about it is its quite possibly the cheapest option.

a good alarm sytem is the toad ai606 which works very well with central locking.

I realise that this car wasn't locked apart from the locked building it was in, but it shows the lengths these thieves will go to to get what they want.

Yes guys, I know all this about cars being 'taken' however the first thing to do is try to prevent break-in and drive/push off.

If I'm not right why don't manufactures fit trackers?

Cost I assume.

They fit steering locks, alarms, immobilisers before trackers.

Most thieves are not going to bring a lorry are they?

What security is on GTRs, Porsches etc? Do they have trackers?
