I watched it through my lads Xbox, don't know how (but he does).
Anyway I thought it was ok for what it's intended to be. Obviously contrived but the car came across well to the public I'm sure.
He explained the Auto-Manual conversion well. The 280ZX gearstick looked a bit strange?
Cheap over there aren't they!

Hi,
I sold Mike Brewer the floor coverings for his house and cottage a few years back and he was always
enthusiastic about Datsun/Nissan Zeds!
We used to chat about them back then....It's only taken him another 8-10 years to actually do one!
You have to remember that it's an entertainment show, but I think that it showed the car in a pretty good
light...Unlike that bloke recently departed from the BBC!

I loved it. We sat as a family and watched it like my parents would have watched the queens speech.
Wish they would have had a look at the brakes and suspension as thats what i'm over hauling for this summer.
As i've mentioned on other threads I can't get over how much z you can get for your money in the states. What would you get for 5K over here

I thought the cam reprofiling was extortionate at $600.00, would have been cheaper getting a new one.
Also as usual they skimmed over the car pretty quick, no mention of brakes, suspension etc.
They were very positive about the car though, which was nice.
One of their better efforts I thought!

My eagle-eyed Missus thought she saw a crack on the dashboard above the oil pressure gauge. I would be surprised if a car that has been in the Californian sun & heat for 40 years didn't have a few cracks appearing. They didn't seem to cover that point.
Otherwise it did paint Zeds in a good light which is all positive. Having said that, my wife has now figured out that I paid a lot more for mine in a lesser condition and a supposed less desirable Z (2+2). I had to make the excuse that it would cost another £3k to import it so that offsets the extra plus it would be a 'left-hooker' whereas mine is a RHD.
Love to know where they got the parts & it would be interesting to see them try to get them whilst in the UK.

When I looked at the dash it had one of those covers on it - i.e. like a carpet.
The show was ok but it's so set up. The test drive was a joke - he left a packed show and got back to an empty car-park having toured the canyons!

That was my reaction on the cam too. Seeing as they didn't seem to replace any of the cam related accessories (rocker arms, etc.) they could've got a new off-the-shelf cam for less than half what they paid. The talk about 'street ability' made me giggle too. Frankly, many Americans are total wimps when it comes down to what is considered 'streetable'. They seem utterly terrified of a bit of lumpy idle and need for revs.
Enjoyed the show though. Didn't know you could use the auto crossmember on the manual box, so I learnt something.
They should've ditched the steel wheels with those sucky trims on them though - Cobra slot mags are ten a penny and cheap as chips in CA.

Come on now guys it was a tv show about buying and selling a car for a profit by initially buying an auto and changing it to a manual to resell for more money not a restoration of a Z.
So a cracked original dash was not part of their remit neither was the brakes or suspension which was said early in the show were both found to be quiet good
IMHO it was a very good watch and did what it said it would do
Lets be honest if they showed it being driven from one place to another to show another shot would that be found interesting No It would have been a bloody boring travel show
The show was not about a test drive or a restoration project it was a show to attract general viewers that are not just Z owners for lets not forget Z owners are a very very small proportion of tv viewers and IMHO it was good to see the s30 getting a good showing on a major TV channel

I don't think there was anything special or difficult about the parts they got. The exhaust system was the ceramic coated 6-1 manifold and premium system from Motorsport Auto in Orange County. I guess they probably got the other bits there. In the UK - well, you can either order direct from MSA, or do it through Mr F. for convenience.
The recon box - don't know about that one. A quick Google would probably find some contenders though for who they got it from.
Yes Steve as I said earlier it was good and I was pleasantry surprised - well done Wheeler Dealers, one of your better shows.

Well I just watched it and was pleasantly surprised, sometimes these car shows can really get it wrong in my opinion but they did pretty good,
They brought a nice base car, did a few subtle mods and auto to manual conversion, so glad they didn't put any spoilers on it or horrible wheels, or wrap it like the Pacer last week eehh !
Well done and can only do the little 240z good I reckon , I bet that the ones on eBay have a few more watches/ bids today though,

Can only be positive- will the anoraks please remember as Burnsie said - it's only a TV programme and TV is NOT a reflection of reality - ALWAYS made up especially 'live' shows.
What we need now is a major film or series in which the principle character (and why not a girlie) drives an S30....
